January / February fun for young kids and parents


Early Literacy Events for the whole family funded by Muskoka Best Start Network.


January 24th enjoy Family literacy Fun Day for children of all ages for free. Located at Gravenhurst Centennial Centre with free books for every child, drumming, Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Music by Jake, healthy snacks and fun early learning activities.


January 27th enjoy Bedtime storytelling feast. Pick up your tickets at the Huntsville Public Library. Come enjoy a free book for kids, drumming, Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and healthy snacks.


February 13th enjoy Alphabet Soup Fundraiser at Robinson Independent. Pick your tickets up at the same location. Adults enjoy a meal from Tall Trees Restaurant and one-of-a-kind bowls handmade by artists and celebrities like Robert Munsch and Stuart McLean that you get to keep. The money goes towards the purchase of books to give to children for free.


February 14th enjoy a day with your grandchild Free with It's a Grand Day. Enjoy free books for kids, story reading, tea party snack, memory box activity and childrens singer Russ.


February 21st enjoy a day with Dad again for free in Bracebridge. Hosted at Bracebridge Public School where you will receive a free book for every child, story reading, obstacle course, painting and children singer Russ.

January Fun for Girls age 9 - 14


In January Spruce Glen Public School in Huntsville, Muskoka is hosting an annual Girlz unplugged conference. This girls conference features drama, yoga, art and an opportunity to make new friends.

January / February Getaway Muskoka / Almaguin


Towards the end of January and around the beginning of February Port Sydney has their Winter Carnival. For full details of this event contact the chamber of commerce at 705-385-1117 or email info@portsydneycofc.com

The events for this start on Wednesday and run until Sunday. The Winter Carnival starts out with The Mad Hatters Dart Tournament at the Port Inn / Sydney's Pub & Bistro and a spaghetti dinner at the community hall. Then on Thursday there is a showcase of Muskoka's fine restaurants - Grand March`e held at the Community Hall.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is a silent Auction at the Community Hall and family skating and bonfire at Lions Rink. Hot Chocolate is provided throughout the weekend. On Saturday morning get out and enjoy a pancake breakfast, shows, kid activities, snowmobile radar race, sleigh rides, dogsled rides, snow sculpture, bbq on beach, ReMax hot air balloon and benefit dance.

Then finish the family weekend off on Sunday with a family breakfast and bidding on the silent Auction items. This is a great weekend for a family winter getaway up north. Dates for this slightly change every year so make sure you contact the organizers or check the Huntsville Weekender in January for schedule of events.

Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snowmobile run in Huntsville, Ontario


On the second weekend in February come to Muskoka for a great weekend to support breast cancer. Kelly Shires breast cancer snowmobile ride is in Huntsville, Ontario is celebrating their 10th year.
